How is it that models always look so great? Well, a big part of it is good nutrition. The old saying is you are what you eat. So here are a few healthy eating tips from fitness and nutrition expert Chery Clark.
- Eat a fruit or vegetable with every meal along with a lean protein.
- Prepare and wash fruits and vegetables so they are ready to eat when hunger strikes.
- Drink lots of water–half your body weight in ounces every day.
- Keep junk food out of the house. It’s amazing how you can find something good to eat when junk isn’t around!
- Eat breakfast. Your body has been fasting all night.
- Eat smaller meals 4-5 a day. Eat less more often.
- Eat something every three hours to fuel your metabolism. Be sure to include lean protein. Almonds work well to stave hunger. Keep some on hand to avoid binging later.
- Eat low glycemic index foods. (For more info, visit The Glycemic Index website.)
- Stick to whole foods. The high fiber content will fill you up.
- Ask yourself this question before eating - Is this food building me up or tearing me down?
Chery says: “Any real changes in body composition require a combination of nutritional management and exercise. Remember to include at least 20 minutes of cardiovascular activity 5-6 days per week and strength training 3-4 days per week.”
