Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina

Dubrovnik was just too expensive to spend much time in, so I took a side trip to Bosnia. Traveled by bus up along the Neretva River to Mostar.

There is a famos old bridge in Mostar. Local men jump off it to earn some cash. The currency here is the Convertible Mark. The Neretva River is crystal clear and icy cold. My legs went numb after being in the water only a few minutes.

There was a terrible war fought in Bosnia back in 1992. Many of the buildings on the main thoroughfare in Mostar are still bombed out and haven’t been rebuilt. The are cemeteries where all the graves have the same date. One of the local people pointed out one cemetery and said it used to be a park. Very chilling.
