Winter in July! Zabljak, Crna Gora

Zabljak is the center for skiing, mountaineering and extreme sports. And was it ever extreme! It was freezing cold and snowing in July right in the middle of summer. The newspaper headline was “Winter in July” (I can read and understand some Cerna Goran which is mostly like Croation or Serbian.) I can only imagine what it must be like in the winter. Those Montenegrans must be a hardy people to be able to live in such harsh conditions.

I stayed in a fairly new guesthouse that a family had built. The first morning I woke up and their were cows grazing on the front lawn and chickens running around. It seems like verybody still keeps a few animals around for food just in case tourism slows down.
