The May Day celebration in Prague took a decidedly pink turn this year as thousands of Czech girls dressed up as tress with pink flowers. And they had to get there somehow so naturally they went by tram.

Tram riders and curious onlookers were surprised by the shocking pink display of the girls dressed up as colorful trees on the way to the May Day festival in Letna Park (Letenske Sady).

May Day, celebrated on May 1 each year, used to be a time for the Communist party faithful to come out and celebrate the workers. Back in the good old communist days, there was an enormous statue of Joseph Stalin and attendence at the festival was mandatory. Well Joe’s statue was blown up in the 1960’s and has been replaced by a giant pendulumin (or Metronome). Today May Day in Czech Republic is a day to celebrate love.
