Photoshop Disasters

Photoshop manipulation is ubiquitous in the magazine industry. Just about every cover photograph has been “photoshopped” to one degree or another. Unfortunately, every Photoshop artist does not always deliver work up to the highest standards of excellence. Hence the blog Photoshop Disasters.

Exploring this site is real hoot. There are pictures of models with extra hands and legs, or missing or misplaced body parts. Like this cover of Marie Claire. Maybe they thought no one would notice?

The obvious question that arises is “How can these mistakes slip by, especially when they are going to be printed millions of times on a magazine cover or product advertising.

Probably the same way typos slip into text. Our guess is they were under a tight deadline and the client demanded last-minute changes. Somebody does a quick and dirty mock-up and voila, that’s what you end up with. I know from my own experience that sometimes there are several versions of a layout and the wrong version of a file gets sent to the printer by mistake. By then it is too late. Still, there is some pretty hilarious stuff there.
