Time Magazine Pays Photographer $30 for Cover

Time Magazine cover The New Frugality

Time magazine paid photographer $31.50 for a cover photo. The April 2009 issue of time magazine included a photograph of a jar of coins for the cover story “The New Frugality”. The photo was sold through iStockPhoto.com, an online stock photography agency.

Robert Lam, the Los Angeles photographer who took the picture, is thrilled to have a Time Magazine cover.

But many professional photographers and business groups are up in arms over this issue. Traditionally, a photo for a Time Magazine cover would earn a pro photographer anywhere from 2000 to 10,000 dollars.
