For most of our time in Lviv, I was staying in an apartment on Rynok Square. Rynok means “market” in Ukrainian and Rynok Square is the main square in the old city. It is where you see most of the tourists.
But I am spending my last day and night in Lviv at the old Hotel George. The Hotel George is a grand old hotel right in the city center of Lviv. It is very conveniently placed at one end of Prospect Svobody so you can walk everywhere. We have been doing a lot of photography right on Prospect Svobod so it works well for us.
The hotel is the old style and has not been upgraded. I prefer this because it means they still look the way things used to look. It’s like going back in a time machine to a different era. Everything is huge–doors, furniture, etc. There is a double door to the room to keep out noise that must be 10 feet high and 4 feet wide. The ceiling is about 14 feet high. There is a sink and an old Soviet era television in the room. Bathroom is down the hall. Cost of the room is 250 Hriven per person.
One modern convenience is free Wi-Fi internet. I measured it using speedtest.net and it was about 500 Kbps. Not the fastest in the world, but twice as fast as the apartment we were staying at.
Breakfast was included with the room. You get an omlette, ham, salami and cheese, rolls, bread, yogurt, tea or coffee, and juice. It was served in the main dining room with clorh napkins, tablecloths, the works. Very elegant for a reasonable price.
There are grand staircases with faux marble that look wonderful. I will stay here on my next visit to Lviv and do some interior photography on the old staircases.
