Back in the USSA
I left the former USSR and now I am back in the USSA. I was behind the “iron curtain” for over a year. Now I am back behind the golden curtain–the Big Apple, New York City. I flew into JFK airport in New York and stayed in midtown Manhattan near Penn Station on 34th Street and 8th Avenue. See map.
I have been out and about with my camera doing some trend-spotting for the Scene-On-The-Street segment. My job is to observe people on the street. When someone has a good look, I ask of I can photograph them. In general, I am not crazy about this kind of photography. I prefer to work with models that already showed an interest in fashion and modeling. But usually I find that people are interested and will pose for a few pictures. Everybody has a little but of the ham in the them and likes to get attention.
Except in New York City. There are so many crazy people asking for something that New Yorkers automatically ignore anyone that approaches them and asks for something. If they are polite they say “No, thanks!” or “Not today”. If they are not so polite…
What I found was the most cooperative people are from out of town. Like from Minnesota, Japan or from somewhere in Europe.
Anyway I will be in the US for an undetermined amount of time. After that, I don’t know. The summer is drawing to a close so the next season is autumn and of course winter. I have to figure out the best place to be in the fall and winter. Maybe southern California or perhaps South America.
