One of the places I stayed at while in Kiev was the Hotel Saint Petersburg. It is in a great location right in the city center. It is on Boulevard Taras Shevchenko, just across from the Bessarabska Rynok, which is a big indoor market. Kiev’s main drag Kreshatyk is just around the corner. Everything is within walking distance. Most of the staff is friendly, especially if you are there for an extended period and they get to know you.

The Saint Peterburg is an old hotel which makes it a good low cost option for budget-minded travelers. The cheapest room is a single for 250 Hryvnia. There is a sink in the room, but the bathroom and shower are down the hall. The only cheaper option is to sleep in a dorm room at one of the hostels in Kiev which will run about 110 Hryvnia.
They offered a free breakfast in the restaurant every morning from 8AM to 10AM: fried eggs, bacon, grilled cheese on toast, yoghurt, juice, and coffee or tea. A great deal. In fact for 30 Hryvnia I would eat there even if I wasn’t staying at the hotel. (The other place I eat breakfast in Kiev is Puzata Khata which offers complete breakfast for 15.90 Hryvnia.)
The only minor problem I had was the wi-fi internet didn’t work in my room, probably because the walls are too thick for the signal to penetrate. I had to sit out in the halllway or work down in the lobby. The friendly staff also let me use a desk in the business center.
