City Year

Girl with cityyear sweatshirt

While I was visiting Cleveland I observed a group of young people exercising as group in front of the Town City Center in downtown Cleveland. Many were wearing red jackets or sweatshirts. The group turned out to be City Year.

City Year is a corps of young people, aged 17 to 24, that spend a year performing service for their community. City Year is part of Americorps. The City Year corps members mostly serve as tutors and role models, transforming schools and neighborhoods throughout America. There are stringent academics requirements for membership so these students are some of our best and brightest.

These young people deserve recognition and credit for devoting their time and energy to helping communities.
