When in Buenos Aires, one of the biggest attractions is the meat. Argentina is famous for producing the best beef in the world. Back in the early days of Argentina, gauchos would round up the cattle that was running wild on the pampas. The gauchos had a diet that was almost exclusively beef grilled over coals. Later, when the cattle were on estancias, the huge ranches of the pampas, asado, or barbeque, became synonymous with Argentina lifestyle.
So what better name for a restaurant than Parilla El Gaucho? It is located right in the center of downtown Buenos Aires on Calle LaValle at Calle Suipacha.

Every Parilla restaurant in downtown Buenos Aires has someone out front handing out flyers with the special offer to get customers to come in. You can see the him out front in the white shirt.

The first thing you see when you enter El Gaucho is the huge grill where all the meat is cooked. El Gaucho has one of the best looking grills I have ever seen. If that doesn’t make you mouth water than you must be a vegetarian.

Seated in the dining room you will see that it is set up for a fine dining experience–cloth tablecloths and napkins, and crystal glassware. The walls are decorated with a gaucho theme, bullwhips, horseshoes, and prints of gauchos working with el cabello, the horse.

The service is excellent at Parilla El Gaucho. Our friendly waitress came and took down our order.

We ordered the special from the flyer which was Bife de Chorizo, which is basically top sirloin steak. You get a choice of ensalada or papas fritas, which is mixed salad or fried potatoes. All this for only $20 pesos! We also ordered a drink–agua con gas for 8 pesos. Our meal came pronto and looked great. The steak was excellent. I have eaten there half a dozen times and it has been great every time.
When in Buenos Aires, you must eat here.
