The very first people, Adam & Eve from the Bible, were naked in the Garden of Eden. There was no shame in their nudity. It was the most natural of things to be naked. God had created the people and animals out of mud and the human body was considered a thing of beauty to be admired. A work of The Creator.
With the climate permitting, people have been going au natural ever since. And artists have been painting, sculpting and photographing the nude human figure throughout history.
“Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither…”
(The Book of Job 1:21)
Art & Nudity
The nude has a prominent part in art history. The ancient Greeks practiced their sports san clothing. Their sculptures were almost always of the naked figure. Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo created some of the greatest works of art featuring the human form. Classical painters like Paul Rubens (Venus at the Mirror) and Botticelli (The Birth of Venus) were known for their paintings of female nudes.
Fashion Nudes
The fashion industry has also embraced nudity as part of the art of fashion. Fashion models from Helena Christianson to Heidi Klum to Kate Moss have posed in the buff numerous time for fashion magazines. Supermodel Naomi Campbell has posed nude for a new fragrance from Dolce & Gabana. Cindy Crawford was the first modern supermodel to pose nude for Playboy magazine and she has been featured on the cover of more than 600 magazines worldwide. It is just another aspect of the fashion industry.
