Coronado Island
Coronado is an island or peninsula just west of San Diego which encloses San Diego Bay. It is connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand called the Silver Strand. The Hotel del Coronado opened in 1888 when a couple of entrepreneurs decided to build a hotel in order to sell building lots on the island. It is one of the few surviving wooden, Victorian-era beach resort and is a National Historic landmark.
Hotel del Coronado is an ultra-luxury hotel on the beach. No, you can’t afford to stay here. It costs $50 just to park your car. It has been featured in a bunch of Hollywood movies including Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe.
Technical Details
I shot this at 11:04 in the morning on November 29 in San Diego, California, USA. It was sunny fall day.
The camera was a Nikon D700 full-frame digital SLR with a Nikkor 24-120 f/3.5-5.6 VR zoom lens. ISO=200, WB=Daylight, Aperture-priority (matrix metering), and single-point Auto-Focus. Exposure details: focal length=45mm, ISO=200, WB=daylight, f/11 @ 1/500.
The camera was set to produce RAW+JPEG(basic). Unfortunately the RAW file was corrupted so I used the JPEG produced by the D700’s in-camera RAW converter which does a great job. It was re-sized for the web with Photoshop CS2. No editing or sharpening–As-Shot.
