The Beat Brothers

Yaro gets with the beat in her pink dress and red shows.
My bonnie lies over the ocean
My bonnie lies over the sea
My bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my bonnie to me
–Robert Burns, My Bonnie

The Beatles very first recording was in Hamburg, Germany in 1961. They played as backup for Tony Sheridan who was a popular rock and roll singer at that time. Even though they were already known as The Beatles, they recorded under the name The Beat Brothers. They recorded eight different songs. The old standard My Bonnie was released as a single in 1961. It was a rock and roll version of the traditional Scottish folk song My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean.
In 1962, The Beatles were playing at lunchtime every day at The Cavern in Liverpool which was a club located in a damp cellar in downtown Liverpool. One day a Liverpool lad named Raymond Jones went into NEMS (North End Music Store), which was just down the street from The Cavern and managed by Brian Epstein, The lad requested My Bonnie by the Beatles. It was not in stock, so Epstein researched that record and found that it was listed as a German recording by Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers. To his surprise, the Beat Brothers aka The Beatles were playing everyday at lunchtime right down the street. So Epstein went to hear them and decided he would become their manager. The rest is history.
