La Nochera

A bevy of pretty girl wearing red dresses in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Mojada de luz, en mi guitarra nochera,
ciñendo voy tu cintura encendida por las estrellas.
–La Nochera

A group of beautiful girls with balloons are lined up in a park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Today’s youtube is the Argentine song La Nochera by Los Chalchaleros. La Nochera means “Evening Song” in Spanish. La Nochera is an example of Zamba, which is a style of music and dance from Argentina.

Zamba is a slow dance in 3/4 time similar to a waltz. It has six beats to the bar and the dance is performed by couples who circle each other waving white hankerchiefs. The Zamba dance is frequently seen on the streets of Argentina, especially during national holidays.

Zamba music is typically played on a guitar and bombo legüero, an Argentine drum made from a hollowed tree trunk and sovered with animal skin. It looks like an old-style military drum.

Here is a rendition of La Nochera by Los Chalchaleros from a live television show. This is a very good live performance by talented musicians.
