Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
–Alexander Pope, An Essay on Criticism, line 625

Today’s you tube has Rick Nelson singing Fools Rush In on the television show The Adventures Of Ozzie & Harriet in 1963. Rick Nelson’s version reached #12 on the Billboard charts.

The song was originally a hit in 1940 for Glenn Miler with singer Ray Eberle. It was also recorded by Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra. Lyrics are by Johnny Mercer and music by Rube Bloom. The opening line is from Alexander Pope’s An Essay On Criticism

The lead guitarist on this is James Burton who played with Rick Nelson on the TV show. He later went on to play lead guitar for Elvis Presley during his comeback our. He also played on numerous hit records as a session player in Los Angeles. He and steel player Ralph Mooney helped define the “Bakersfield sound” which so much of modern country music is based on. James Burton played a Fender telecaster and had a distinctive style that could already be heard on this recording.

Here is a recording of Fools Rush in by Elvis Presley. You can easily hear that the lead guitar is also James Burton. There is a little bit longer lead guitar solo with some classic James Burton licks.

Here is a recording by Glenn Miller Orchestra with singer Ray Eberle.
