Today’s youtube musical hit is “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” by Herman’s Hermits. The song was written by Trevor Peacock and was originally sung by Sir Tom Courtney in The Lads, a British teleplay in 1963.

Herman’s Hermits recorded Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter in 1965, and it became a #1 hit in the U.S. The singer is Peter Noone, who was 18 years old. (Justin Bieber bears a striking resemblance to singer Peter Noone, a.k.a. Herman)

The rhythm guitar sounds like a ukelele and the presentation is somewhat like English music hall fare.

Here is Herman’s Hermits performing live on television.

Here’s the original hit single

Herman’s Hermits: MRS. BROWN, YOU’VE GOT A LOVELY DAUGHTER

Mrs. Brown, you’ve got a lovely daughter
Girls as sharp as her are something rare
But it’s sad, she doesn’t love me now
She’s made it clear enough it ain’t no good to pine

She wants to return those things I bought her
Tell her she can keep them just the same
Things have changed, she doesn’t love me now
She’s made it clear enough it ain’t no good to pine

(Bridge)
Walkin’ about, even in a crowd, well
You’ll pick her out, makes a bloke feel so proud

If she finds that I’ve been round to see you (round to see you)
Tell her that I’m well and feeling fine (feelin’ fine)
Don’t let on, don’t say she’s broke my heart
I’d go down on my knees but it’s no good to pine

Walkin’ about, even in a crowd, well
You’ll pick her out, makes a bloke feel (so proud)

If she finds that I’ve been round to see you (round to see you)
Tell her that I’m well and feeling fine (feelin’ fine, doo-oo-oo)
Don’t let on, (doo-oo-oo) don’t say she’s broke my heart
I’d go down on my knees but it’s no good to pine

Mrs. Brown, you’ve got a lovely daughter (lovely daughter)
