Today’s youtube musical hit is “I’m into something good” by Herman’s Hermits. The song was written by the songwriting team Geoff Goffin and Carole King from the Brill Building, and was originally recorded by Earl-Jean McCrea of The Cookies in 1964.
Here’s the original 45rpm single by Earl-Jean McCrea in 1964: It has a definite R&B sound.
Herman’s Hermits sped up the tempo, changed the lyrics to suit a male singer, and then recorded I’m Into Something Good in 1964. It was their first hit record and Herman’s Hermits became part of the British invasion, including appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. The singer is Peter Noone, who was just 17 years old.
Here’s Herman’s Hermits original hit single I’m Into Something Good. It has more of a bubble-gum sound than the original version by Earl Jean.
Here is Herman’s Hermits performing I’m Into Something Good on television.

I’m Into Something Good (cover)
Herman’s Hermits: I’M INTO SOMETHING GOOD
Woke up this mornin’ feelin’ fine
There’s somethin’ special on my mind
Last night I met a new girl in the neighborhood, whoa yeah
Refrain:
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
She’s the kind of girl who’s not too shy
And I can tell I’m her kind of guy
She danced close to me like I hoped she would
(she danced with me like I hoped she would)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
Bridge:
We only danced for a minute or two
But then she stuck close to me the whole night through
Can I be fallin’ in love
(She’s everything I’ve been dreamin’ of)
She’s everything I’ve been dreamin’ of
I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn’t be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
(Instrumental Break)
I walked her home and she held my hand
I knew it couldn’t be just a one-night stand
So I asked to see her next week and she told me I could
(I asked to see her and she told me I could)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
To something good, oh yeah, something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
To something good, something good, something good
Earl Jean: SOMETHING GOOD
Woke up this morning feeling fine
Cause there was something special on my mind
Last night I met a new boy in the neighborhood, whoa yeah
Refrain:
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
He’s kind of quiet and not too shy
And I can tell he’s my kind of guy
He danced every slow dance with me like I hoped he would
(He danced with me like I hoped he would, now)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(Somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ good)
Bridge:
We only talked for a minute or two
And it felt like I knew him my whole night through
I don’t know if you could call it love
(But he’s everything I’ve been dreamin’ of)
He’s everything that I’ve been dreamin’ of
When he walked me home and he held my hand
I knew it wouldn’t be just a one-night stand
‘Cause he asked to see me next week and I told him he could, whoa yeah
(He asked to see me and I told him he could, well)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’ good)
(Instrumental Break)
When he walked me home and he held my hand
I knew it wouldn’t be just a one-night stand
‘Cause he asked to see me next week and I told him he could
(He asked to see me and I told him he could, well)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
Something good, oh yeah, something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
Somethin’ tells me I’m into something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
Something good, something good, something good
(somethin’ tells me I’m into somethin’)
